About Nuremberg

Nuremberg is the second largest city in the State of Bavaria. Its unique traditionalism can be seen from the numerous historical buildings spread throughout the region. The town’s castle is a striking symbol of the city and is one of Europe’s oldest fortifications. The Neptune Fountain and the Frauentorturm are definitely worth visiting - You can of course combine all of these cultural highlights with an extensive shopping trip. One of the joys of travelling by coach is that you can always be sure that you and your shopping bags will get from A to B and back again – no problem with FlixBus!

Things to do in Nuremberg

One of Nuremberg’s most popular churches is its Roman Catholic “Frauenkirche” located on the eastern side of the main market. Following the order of Emperor Charles IV, the construction began in 1349 and the inauguration of this Gothic style church was then fulfilled nine years later in 1358. During your visit to this church you should be sure to take some time to look at the preserved sculptures; thanks to the complex restorations that took place, these sculptures are a popular attraction amongst our coach travellers. Another recommendation is the Old Town Albrecht Duerer House. Albrecht Duerer lived here from 1509 to 1528 and worked as a painter, graphic designer, mathematician and art theoretician. The structure was erected in 1420 – while the two lower floors were bricked in sandstone, the other two floors followed the upper half-timbered style of the period. Today the Albrecht Dürer building is one of Nuremberg’s city museums. A great destination for any coach traveller is the Nicolaus-Copernicus-Planetarium, which is located directly in the city centre and will lead you on an exciting journey to the stars. Here you can see the solar system like you’ve never seen it before as Nuremberg’s Planetarium holds more information about our solar system and universe than any other museum in Bavaria; a fascinating trip for children and adults alike.

Nuremberg: Culture & History

The Zeppelin Field is a very special national heritage and is one of the best ways to discover the truths and history of the Nazi Party Rally Grounds, an interesting and eye opening history lesson for all. Founded in 1852, the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg is the biggest museum in the German speaking region and exhibits many cultural, artistic and historical objects. The museum is made up of an extensive archive, a library, a conservation department and a teaching centre. Every year it attracts around 400,000 visitors from all over the world – and is a popular destination for our coach travellers. Another very special museum is the Nuremberg “Toy Museum” that was opened in 1971. Here you will find an extensive 1,400m² spread of the history of toys. During the industrialisation, Nuremberg was known as the toy city of the world. The “Toy Museum” display focuses on the past 200 years, containing a collection of over 65,000 objects from antique-like-toys to present-day items. However, around 150,000 visitors every year only get to see five percent of the objects as the remainder are stored in the museum depot.
For the art lovers amongst our passengers, as soon as your coach arrives in Nuremberg you should visit the academy of art. The history of the academy goes back to the 17th Century, making it one of the most traditional houses of its kind in the Federal Republic. The academy is still used today as a university for subjects in numerous artistic fields, and displays not only the student’s artistic creations but regularly exhibits work from famous artists.
